PERSONAGGI CELEBRI LAZZARITI IL GRAN MAESTRO AYMAR DE CLERMONT-CHASTE, SIGNORE DI GESSANS E LA BRETONNIÈRE

Aymar de Clermont-Chaste, Signore di Gessans e La Bretonnière fu un nobile cattolico, Cavaliere prima dell'Ordine di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme e poi dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme, ufficiale della marina francese tra il XVI e il XVII secolo. Servì nelle guerre tra Spagna e Francia dal 1582 al 1598.

Aymar de Clermont-Chaste proveniva dal ramo Clermont-Chaste della casata di Clermont-Tonnerre. Era figlio di François de Chaste, balivo di Velay (1542), e di Paule de Joyeuse.

Governatore di Dieppe, le cui porte aprì a Enrico IV nel 1589, e di Arques-la-Bataille, fu ambasciatore francese in Inghilterra dalla metà del XVI secolo.

Nel 1593, dopo essere stato ammesso nell’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme, ne divenne Gran Maestro, carica che mantenne fino alla morte avvenuta il 13 maggio 1603.

Aymar de Clermont-Chaste, Lord of Gessans and La Bretonnière was a Catholic nobleman, Knight first of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem and then of the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, an officer of the French navy between the 16th and 17th centuries. He served in the wars between Spain and France from 1582 to 1598.

Aymar de Clermont-Chaste came from the Clermont-Chaste branch of the House of Clermont-Tonnerre. He was the son of François de Chaste, bailiff of Velay (1542), and Paule de Joyeuse.

Governor of Dieppe, whose gates he opened to Henry IV in 1589, and of Arques-la-Bataille, he was French ambassador to England from the mid-16th century.

In 1593, after being admitted to the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, he became Grand Master, a position he held until his death on 13 May 1603.
