IL GRAN MAESTRO EMERITO SUA ECCELLENZA DON FRANCISCO DE PAULA ENRIQUE DE BORBÓN Y ESCASANY 5° DUCA DI SIVIGLIA E GRANDE DI SPAGNA È TORNATO ALLA CASA DEL PADRE

Sua Eccellenza Don Francisco de Paula Enrique de Borbón y Escasany (16 novembre 1943 - 20 maggio 2025), 5° Duca di Siviglia, Grande di Spagna, Gran Maestro Emerito dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme, è tornato alla casa del Padre il 20 maggio 2025.

Nacque a Madrid come primogenito di Francisco de Borbón y Borbón (1912-1995), figlio minore di Francisco de Borbón y de la Torre e di Enriqueta de Borbón y Parade, quarta duchessa di Siviglia. Sua madre era Enriqueta Escasany y Miquel (1925-1962), figlia di Ignacio Escasany y Ancell e di Enriqueta de Miquel y Mas, seconda marchesa di Pobla de Claramunt.

I suoi nonni paterni erano cugini di primo grado, essendo entrambi nipoti dell'Infante Enrique di Spagna. Il Duca di Siviglia appartiene al ramo spagnolo della Casa di Borbone ed è parente del Re Felipe VI di Spagna, poiché entrambi discendono dal Re Carlo IV di Spagna.

Dopo la morte della nonna, Enriqueta de Borbón y Parade, ha ereditato il titolo di Duca di Siviglia. Suo padre aveva rinunciato ai propri diritti di successione al titolo nel 1968.

Si sposò il 7 luglio 1973 a Baden-Baden con la contessa Beatrice Wilhelmine Paula von Hardenberg (28 giugno 1947 a Donaueschingen - 14 marzo 2020 a Marbella), figlia del conte Günther von Hardenberg e di sua moglie, la principessa Maria Josepha di Fürstenberg (nipote di Massimiliano Egon II, principe di Fürstenberg). La coppia ha avuto tre figli e ha divorziato il 30 giugno 1989 a Madrid.

Il Duca di Siviglia è stato eletto 48° Gran Maestro dell'Ordine di San Lazzaro il 5 ottobre 1996 a Santa Maria della Passione a Milano. È succeduto al padre, che era stato Gran Maestro dell'Ordine dal 1956.

Si è ritirato dalla carica di Gran Maestro nel 2008 ed è stato, quindi, insignito del titolo di Gran Maestro Emerito. Nel 2018, il figlio del Duca di Siviglia è stato eletto 50° Gran Maestro dell'Ordine di San Lazzaro, succedendo a Carlos Gereda y de Borbón.

È stato insignito della Gran Croce di Cavaliere dell'Ordine dell'Aquila di Georgia e della Tunica senza cuciture di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo, Senatore del Gran Distintivo dell'Ordine della Regina Tamara. È stato inoltre Consejero Magistral (Presidente) del Corpo della Nobiltà del Principato delle Asturie.

I membri del Gran Baliato di Sicilia si uniscono in preghiera per l’anima del caro defunto e partecipano al dolore della famiglia e dell’intero Ordine per la perdita di quello che fu il 48° Gran Maestro.

THE GRAND MASTER EMERITUS HIS EXCELLENCY DON FRANCISCO DE PAULA ENRIQUE DE BORBÓN Y ESCASANY 5TH DUKE OF SEVILLE AND GRAND DUKE OF SPAIN HAS RETURNED TO THE FATHER’S HOUSE

His Excellency Don Francisco de Paula Enrique de Borbón y Escasany (16 November 1943 - 20 May 2025), 5th Duke of Seville, Grand Master Emeritus of the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem, returned to the Father’s house on 20 May 2025.

He was born in Madrid as the eldest child of Francisco de Borbón y Borbón (1912–1995), who was the younger son of Francisco de Borbón y de la Torre and Enriqueta de Borbón y Parade, 4th Duchess of Seville. His mother was Enriqueta Escasany y Miquel (1925–1962), daughter of Ignacio Escasany y Ancell and Enriqueta de Miquel y Mas, 2nd Marquesa de Pobla de Claramunt.

His paternal grandparents were first cousins, both being grandchildren of Infante Enrique of Spain. The Duke of Seville is a member of the Spanish branch of the House of Bourbon and is a relative of King Felipe VI of Spain, since both are descendants of King Charles IV of Spain.

After the death of his grandmother, Enriqueta de Borbón y Parade, he inherited the title of Duke of Seville. His father had renounced his own rights to succeed to the title in 1968.

He was married on 7 July 1973 at Baden-Baden to Countess Beatrice Wilhelmine Paula von Hardenberg (28 June 1947 in Donaueschingen – 14 March 2020 in Marbella), daughter of Count Günther von Hardenberg and his wife, Princess Maria Josepha of Fürstenberg (granddaughter of Maximilian Egon II, Prince of Fürstenberg). The couple had three children and divorced on 30 June 1989 in Madrid.

The Duke of Seville was elected as 48th Grand Master of the Order of Saint Lazarus on 5 October 1996 at Santa Maria della Passione in Milan, Italy. He succeeded his father, who had been Grand Master of the Order since 1956.

He retired from his position of Grand Master in 2008 and was then given the title of Grand Master Emeritus. In 2018, the Duke of Seville's son was elected as 50th Grand Master of the Order of Saint Lazarus, succeeding Carlos Gereda y de Borbón.

He has been awarded Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Seamless Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Senator of the Grand Badge of the Order of the Queen Tamara. He was, also, Consejero Magistral (President) of the Corps of the Nobility of the Principality of Asturias.

The members of the Grand Bailiwick of Sicily unite in prayer for the soul of the dear departed and share the grief of the family and the entire Order for the loss of the 48th Grand Master.
