NOMINA DELL’ARCIVESCOVO IAN ERNEST A FONDATORE E CAPO GIURISDIZIONE NELLE ISOLE MAURITIUS
Il Gran Maestro dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro, con decreto del 30 settembre 2026, ha conferito a Sua Grazia l’Arcivescovo Ian Ernest, ECLJ, membro del Gran Baliato di Sicilia e già rappresentante dell’Arcivescovo di Canterbury presso la Santa Sede, l’incarico di fondatore e capo giurisdizione presso le Isole Mauritius.
L’Arcivescovo Ian Ernest, dopo la fine del suo mandato a Roma presso la Santa Sede, è rientrato alle Isole Mauritius, dove è nato e dove aveva ricoperto la carica di Primate della Provincia Anglicana dell’Oceano Indiano.
L’incarico contempla il mandato di creare e sviluppare il Gran Priorato delle Mauritius nel rispetto della missione cavalleresca, spirituale, caritativa ed ospedaliera dell’Ordine di San Lazzaro. All’arcivescovo è stata conferita la facoltà di scegliere ed investire i nuovi membri, nonché di rappresentare l’Ordine in quella regione.
L’arcivescovo Ian Ernest ha accettato l’incarico ringraziando il Gran Maestro per la fiducia riposta.
Appointment of Archbishop Ian Ernest AS FOUNDER AND HEAD OF JURISDICTION IN MAURITIUS
By a decree dated September 30, 2026, the Grand Master of the Order of Saint Lazarus appointed His Grace Archbishop Ian Ernest, ECLJ—a member of the Grand Bailiwick of Sicily and former representative of the Archbishop of Canterbury to the Holy See—as the founder and head of the jurisdiction in Mauritius.
Following the conclusion of his tenure in Rome at the Holy See, Archbishop Ian Ernest returned to Mauritius, his birthplace and the place where he had previously served as Primate of the Anglican Province of the Indian Ocean.
The appointment entails the mandate to establish and develop the Grand Priory of Mauritius in accordance with the chivalric, spiritual, charitable, and hospitaller mission of the Order of Saint Lazarus. The Archbishop has been granted the authority to select and invest new members, as well as to represent the Order in the region.
Archbishop Ian Ernest accepted the appointment, expressing his gratitude to the Grand Master for the trust placed in him.
