Jean Baptiste de La Rochefoucauld nacque il 27 giugno 1757 al Castello di La Boislivière ad Apremont, in Vandea. Era il terzo figlio di Jacques-Louis I de La Rochefoucauld (1717–1798), Signore di Beaulieu, e di Suzanne Poictevin du Plessis-Landry de La Rochette (1725–1793).

Entrò in servizio nel reggimento dell'Alvernia il 1° gennaio 1772, fu nominato Capitano del reggimento dei Dragoni di La Rochefoucauld e il 28 gennaio 1778 Colonnello di Fanteria.

Nel 1788 fu creato Commendatore dell'Ordine di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme da Luigi XVI.

Dopo la Restaurazione borbonica, il re lo promosse a Tenente Generale degli Eserciti il ​​13 agosto 1814, Direttore del Dépôt de la Guerre e lo creò Pari di Francia il 17 agosto 1815. Fu poi Commendatore, quindi Gran Croce dell'Ordine di San Luigi, il 30 settembre 1818 e il 21 agosto 1822, e Cavaliere dell'Ordine dello Spirito Santo nel 1827.

Il Barone di La Rochefoucauld-Bayers fu membro della Commissione incaricata di esaminare i servizi degli ex emigranti della Vandea. Fu chiamato a far parte del governo della XII Divisione Militare nel luglio 1823 e presiedette il Consiglio Generale del dipartimento dell'Aude nel 1825.

Il Barone morì il 1° febbraio 1834 nel X arrondissement di Parigi e fu sepolto nel cimitero di Père-Lachaise.

Jean Baptiste de La Rochefoucauld was born on 27 June 1757 at the Château de la Boislivière in Apremont, Vendée. He was the third son of Jacques-Louis I de La Rochefoucauld (1717–1798), Lord of Beaulieu, and Suzanne Poictevin du Plessis-Landry de La Rochette (1725–1793).

He entered service in the Auvergne regiment on 1 January 1772, was appointed Captain in the regiment of La Rochefoucauld Dragoons, the 28 January 1778 then Colonel of Infantry.

In 1788 he was created Commander of the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem by Louis XVI.

After the Bourbon Restoration, the King promoted him to Lieutenant-General of the Armies on 13 August 1814, Director of the Dépôt de la Guerre and created a Peer of France on 17 August 1815. He was then, Commander, then Grand Cross of the Order of Saint-Louis, on 30 September 1818 and 21 August 1822, and Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit in 1827.

The Baron of La Rochefoucauld-Bayers was a member of the Commission responsible for examining the services of former emigrants and Vendée. He was called to the government of the 12th Military Division in July 1823 and chaired the General Council of the department of Aude in 1825.

The Baron died on 1 February 1834 in the 10th arrondissement of Paris and was buried at the Père-Lachaise Cemetery.
