ACQUISITA AL TESORO DEL GRAN BALIATO L’ACQUAFORTE “RESURREZIONE DI LAZZARO” (SEC. XVII) DI ABRAHAM BLOEMAERT

Il Gran Baliato ha acquisito al proprio tesoro “La Resurrezione di Lazzaro”, un’acquaforte e bulino del XVII secolo, di Abraham Bloemaert, realizzata dall’incisore Claez Janszoon Visscher.

La prima opera riconosciuta di Abraham Bloemaert è la Niobe del 1591 a cui seguì la Predica di Giovanni Battista ed il Battesimo di Cristo del 1595. Nel 1595 entrò a far parte della Gilda di San Luca, per la quale ricoprì la carica di presidente nel 1618. Insieme a Paulus Moreelse fondò un'accademia artistica nel 1612. Bloemaert fu un cattolico praticante ed ebbe numerosi contatti con il mondo intellettuale. Tra i suoi amici possiamo menzionare lo scrittore e disegnatore Aernout van Buchel. Lo studio di Bloemaerts fu visitato nel 1626 da Elizabeth Stuart, regina di Boemia, e l'anno seguente da Rubens.

Claes Janszoon Visscher, detto anche Nicolas Janszoon Visscher o Nicolaum Johannis Pescatorem è stato un editore, incisore, disegnatore e cartografo olandese del secolo d'oro. Nel 1605 lavorò come incisore per l'editore di Amsterdam Willem Jansz. Molto presto iniziò a pubblicare stampe di propria fattura, caratterizzate dal logo detto La firma del Pescatore, riferimento al suo nome, sia da artisti olandesi contemporanei che non. Immagazzinò, inoltre, stampe, acquisendo su larga scala lastre di rame da altri editori e stampatori, non solo prodotte da artisti viventi, ma anche vecchie tavole da Maarten van Heemskerck e altri noti pittori, prodotte da Hieronymus Cock e dai suoi successori. Contribuì, in questo modo, a costituire una delle più importanti case editrici dell'epoca. Rappresentò soggetti religiosi, paesaggi, in particolare invernali, e architetture, e realizzò stampe di devozione. Realizzò stampe da disegni di artisti come David Vinckboons e mappe. Nonostante la più importante pubblicazione dell'epoca, la Bibbia, nella versione autorizzata nei Paesi Bassi protestanti, fosse senza illustrazioni, Visscher, come pure altri editori dell'epoca, realizzarono stampe, che, inizialmente separate dal testo religioso, vi furono in seguito incorporate.

THE TREASURY OF THE GRAND BAILIWICK ACQUIRED THE ‘RESURRECTION OF LAZARUS’ ETCHING (18TH CENTURY) BY ABRAHAM BLOEMAERT

The Grand Bailiwick acquired to its treasury ‘The Resurrection of Lazarus’, a 17th century etching and burin work by Abraham Bloemaert, by engraver Claez Janszoon Visscher.

The first recognised work by Abraham Bloemaert is the Niobe of 1591, which was followed by the Preaching of John the Baptist and the Baptism of Christ in 1595. In 1595 he joined the Guild of St. Luke, for which he served as president in 1618. Together with Paulus Moreelse he founded an art academy in 1612. Bloemaert was a practising Catholic and had numerous contacts with the intellectual world. Among his friends we can mention the writer and draughtsman Aernout van Buchel. Bloemaerts' studio was visited in 1626 by Elizabeth Stuart, Queen of Bohemia, and the following year by Rubens.

Claes Janszoon Visscher, also called Nicolas Janszoon Visscher or Nicolaum Johannis Pescatorem was a Dutch publisher, engraver, draughtsman and cartographer of the Golden Century. In 1605 he worked as an engraver for the Amsterdam publisher Willem Jansz. Very early on, he started to publish prints of his own work, characterised by the logo known as The Fisherman's Signature, a reference to his name, by both contemporary and non-contemporary Dutch artists. He also stored prints, acquiring copperplates on a large scale from other publishers and printers, not only produced by living artists, but also old plates from Maarten van Heemskerck and other well-known painters, produced by Hieronymus Cock and his successors. In this way, he contributed to one of the most important publishing houses of the time. He depicted religious subjects, landscapes, especially winter landscapes, and architecture, and produced devotional prints. He produced prints from drawings by artists such as David Vinckboons and maps. Despite the fact that the most important publication of the time, the Bible, in the version authorised in the protestant Netherlands, was without illustrations, Visscher, as well as other publishers of the time, produced prints, which were initially separate from the religious text, but were later incorporated into it.
